Merrily

row-merrily

I think inspiration comes packaged more often in the simple things.

“Row, row, row your boat” is one of those treasures hidden in plain sight.  I was reminded of it the other day on a Facebook post.

It’s a song I must have sung 1,000 times as a child and another 1,000 as a parent.  It offers some inspired guidance as we enter into a new year.

Let’s take it line by line …

“Row, row, row your boat”

Yes, we have a boat.  It’s a beautiful boat; seaworthy and strong.  You are the captain.

“Gently down the stream”

Your job is to row your boat.  But we need only row “gently”.

Not vigorously or impatiently.  Not cautiously or fearfully.

Just gently.

And why is gently enough?

Because we have the benefit of going down stream.  We don’t have to go against the current.  We can choose not to fight.  Not to collide.  Not to push.  Not to strain.

“Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily”

Here is our reminder to be grateful.  We have a beautiful boat.   There is a current to help us.   We can be gentle and relaxed.  So it shouldn’t be a surprise that …

“Life is but a dream”

Our lives can reflect our dreams.  We are captains, creators that have, as my teacher says, “the wind at our backs”.   We have the ability to manifest our dreams into our lives.

Be gentle.  Feel the current.  Stay grateful.   Dreams will come true.

A perfect song for 2017.
